Dwight Yoakam Will Embark on Full Blown Tour Next Year

Dwight called me to discuss his first album in seven years.

:00 Dwight Yoakam is your real name. What would your stage name have been – had you used one?

:30 “3 Pears” is in stores; it’s your first album in seven years. Why did you wait so long to release new music?

1:32 Sometimes you hear about artists recording 50-60 songs for an album, and obviously not all make the final cut. How many did you record?

2:54 Kid Rock helped you write “Take Hold Of My Hand.” Did you really start that song over 20 years ago?

4:02 “A Heart Like Mine” fades completely out at one point, then fades back in. Can you tell me what you were thinking when you decided to do that?

5:21 Ashley Monroe from Miranda Lambert’s Pistol Annies co-wrote a song on the album (It’s Never Alright). How did you hookup with her?

The song that Ashley and Dwight previously recorded together was, “That’s Why We Call Each Other Baby,” for Ashley’s debut solo album, “Satisfied.”

6:23 Is there any chance you’ll pop up on Ashley’s next solo record?

6:43 When are you going to do a full blown tour?

7:16 What made you go back to a major label for this album? Why not release the music yourself?

8:09 Last night, I was watching a video of you and Merle Haggard perform “Swinging Doors” and you did this foot drag..I dunno..dance move? What was that?

9:06 Are you a country music legend?

9:17 Will there ever be another “Crank?”
